Here’s a step-by-step look at what an appointment like this involves.

A smile she could feel happy in again

This patient’s front teeth had become worn, darker and uneven over time. Decay and small holes had damaged her two central teeth. She hoped for a smile that felt healthy and fresh again — not one that looked artificial or unlike her.

Before composite veneers: worn, darkened front teeth with damaged areas
Before — worn edges, a darker appearance and damage on the two front teeth.

Her plan and fees had already been discussed at an earlier visit, so treatment day could stay focused and calm. After gently removing the decay, Julia lightly roughened the tooth surfaces so the composite could bond securely — a little like preparing natural nails before a manicure, rather than extensive drilling. She then rebuilt the six upper front teeth freehand, from canine to canine, restoring a little length and sealing the worn, fragile edges.

Immediately after — repaired edges, a little more length and a brighter shade, created freehand in about three hours.

The main appointment took about three hours. At a short follow-up of around 20 minutes, Julia refined and polished the final details. The result was a brighter, more harmonious smile that still looked unmistakably her own. She left feeling happy and confident.

The immediate-after photograph was taken while she still had some temporary gum bleeding and slight puffiness of the upper lip from the anaesthetic. Most patients’ lips do not become puffy, and the result settled beautifully by her polishing visit.

Built freehand, with attention to every detail

Julia shapes composite veneers by hand — carefully controlling tooth proportions, contours, translucency, colour gradients and surface texture as she layers the material. For this smile, the colour moves gently from a slightly warmer tone near the gums to a brighter biting edge, so the teeth sit comfortably with the rest of her smile rather than reading as one flat shade of white. A little surface texture helps the light catch in a lifelike way.

Fees and timing

Freehand composite veneers can help repair chipped or damaged front teeth, rebuild worn edges and improve shape and colour. Treatment usually takes about three hours, followed by a short polishing appointment of around 20 minutes. Indicative fees are $500–$750 per tooth, depending on how much rebuilding each tooth needs. We explain your costs clearly before treatment begins.

Composite or ceramic?

Ceramic veneers are typically even more beautiful aesthetically, stronger, more chip-resistant and more stain-resistant than composite. They are lab-made for a refined finish.

Composite is an affordable alternative — a beautiful freehand result, often completed in a same-day main visit, at a lower fee ($500–$750 per tooth compared with ceramic at $2,090 per tooth). We will talk through what fits your teeth, your timing and your budget — not push you towards the most elaborate option. For whitening and other ways to refresh your smile, see cosmetic dentistry, or browse our smile makeover cases on the home page.

Ceramic — the ultra option. Stronger, more chip-resistant and more stain-resistant than composite, with the best aesthetics for the most beautiful smile. See ceramic veneers. Composite remains the affordable freehand alternative at $500–$750 per tooth.

All fees are indicative and may vary with individual needs and treatment complexity. Every smile and treatment outcome is different.
